For the long Labor Day weekend Carly and I again (and again) returned to the Tetons. This time we were leaving the climbing gear at home and going to the west side, the Idaho side. The weather looked pretty good Saturday and Sunday, but then potentially a rainy Sunday night and Monday morning. However the weather window improved and it only rained overnight Sunday and Monday was a beautiful cool late summer day.
We stayed in Teton Canyon Campground rather than trying to do a primitive site. This let us have easy access to both of the runs we did straight from the campsite. The first one was up Table Mountain to a wonderful view of the Grand Teton from an aspect I’ve never seen it from. It was a good trail though the first portion to the summit of Table Mtn was too steep for us to run, the latter half was pretty good though for running.
Sunday we rode the lifts on the mountain bikes at Grand Targhee Resort. They have awesome trails and lots of variety, even a whole bunch of XC trails of which we only did a tiny amount. We also ran into a bunch of SLC and former BD friends that we haven’t seen in a long time.
Monday we ran up Devil’s Staircase from camp again. This was a phenomenal trail. The first ~3 miles were buffed low angle trail we great scenery. Then a mile or so of steeper trail to a little pond below a scenic alpine basin. Awesome long weekend.
