Why Utah?

A spring storm approaches in the San Rafael Swell. The desert flowers appreciate it, but not the climbers.

Why did I move to Utah?  Well yes I did get a job here but to even consider a job the location needed to have outdoor recreation nearby.  Utah has that in spades.  Friday morning Carly and I skied at Snowbird in a spring storm.  They had gotten 10″ in the last 48 hours and got a few more inches while we were there.  What’s better than fresh turns at a nearly empty resort in May?  Driving 3.5 hours to the desert to enjoy warm weather, sandstone, and spring flowers.

Coppi and I headed down to the San Rafael Swell after my half day at work on Friday and we climbed some great routes at the Dylan Wall.  We didn’t see a single other climber.  Unfortunately a storm was rolling in and we packed up Saturday evening after climbing to return to Salt Lake.  The storm is predicted to drop a few inches of snow in the higher elevations of the desert.  Spring in Utah!
